Recently, the entire lower elementary took a trip to Lowell Observatory! In addition to exploring the recently built spaces for kids inside the museum, “The kids had a lot of fun and learned about the discovery of Pluto at the observatory while getting to see the actual telescope that took the picture,” said Willow guide Kendra Hermann. “They learned about Clyde Tombaugh who discovered Pluto and how he spent hours in the tower of the telescope in the dark going through the pictures.” The kids also experienced a demonstration of how cold it is on Pluto, and how monsoons form in the summer. They even got to look at the sun through a special telescope on the observation deck. (Don’t worry, no eyes were harmed in the staring-at-the-sun experience!) Thank you to everyone at Lowell Observatory for making the trip fun, educational and out-of-this-world!
